5 Life Lessons from the Story of David and Goliath

Most of us are familiar with the story of David and Goliath. But as I was reading the chapter during my devotion, I found more wisdom besides what I had previously known. Let me share them with you.

1. Don’t be distracted by naysayers.

When David’s brother heard him asking questions at the battle camp, his brother said, “… I know how conceited you are and how wicked your heart is; you came down only to watch the battle.” To this, David answered, “Now what have I done? Can’t I even speak?” and he turned away and asked another person.

If David allowed his brother’s words to discourage him, perhaps he would not have won his historic victory. Perhaps he would not have been a king.

Strangers, acquaintances, and even family will question our intentions. People will accuse us of hurtful things just because. But only God knows our hearts. If we are sincerely doing our best with a clear conscience, let us learn to ignore words that do nothing but drag us down.

2. You are exactly where you need to be.

David is not a soldier. He is a shepherd. Yet he defeated a battle champion.

This is not a coincidence. His years tending his sheep– fighting lions and bears prepared…
