My First Year in Law School
So many things break my heart, and I feel I’m better positioned to do something about them when I become a lawyer. This was my answer to one of my teachers when I was asked the million-dollar question, “ Why do you want to become a lawyer?”
My answer to the question changed with every teacher, family, friend, or stranger who asked. A year into law school, my answer to that question is entirely different. The reason I entered law school is not the same reason I’m continuing it. The more I learn about the law, the more reasons I find why this path makes sense for me.
How does it feel to be back to school?
Someone asked, how does it feel to go back to school at this age? I’m 34. But I don’t feel old for law school. Entering the academe again actually makes me feel younger.
It’s difficult, of course. It’s hard to juggle adult responsibilities with academic requirements. It’s hard to manage time, energy, and emotions so I can finish things well and on time. It’s hard to sacrifice some things to give way to this dream. But this is the hard I’m choosing.
It’s exciting. I have never been this excited about school. I enjoyed going to school during my undergrad years because of my friends or some teachers I liked, not because of “schooling” itself. Now it’s the learning I enjoy…
