My Unsolicited Advice for Carlos Yulo and Those Around Him — Be Still
You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you– the Miranda warning is not only indispensable for the criminally accused, it is also important for someone under public scrutiny, especially since most only need an iota of proof to arrive at every conclusion possible. When emotions are high, it is best to be still. Emotional decisions are prone to being stupid decisions. If Romeo only waited and stayed still for a few moments, perhaps taking the moment to cry over Juliet, both of them would have stayed alive. I know this is fiction, but many of us make wrong or even fatal decisions because we let our emotions take control.
We can believe and say whatever we want, but at the end of the day, one thing is clear- Carlos Yulo won two Olympic gold medals because and/or despite the people around him from his birth to the moment of his golden performance. May Caloy avoid making decisions until the dust settles unless he needs to. For now, may he just enjoy all his gifts because he deserves all of them. May his mom stop talking to the public for her own and her son’s sake. If there’s one person she needs to talk to, it’s her son and son alone.
