Mommy I’m scared to start High School. They are all smart.” You told me over a meal. I forgot how I answered if I answered you at all. Yes, they may all be smart, but so are you. They might also be scared like you. And you know what? I am scared too.

It’s okay to be scared. Feel the fear, but face it anyway. Soon enough that fear will turn into joy and excitement. Then it will appear again throughout high school and your life. Every fear you conquer makes you bolder, wiser, and more equipped for the next.

Don’t overthink. You don’t know what others are thinking and are up to. Be kind to others and to yourself too.

Be confident without being arrogant. Be nice but don’t let people treat you like a doormat. Speak your mind, but do it with respect. Study well and have fun too.

You are independent, responsible, kind, sweet, smart, beautiful, innovative, and creative; don’t let anyone make you feel otherwise, even if that someone is me. Use these amazing qualities you have to make the best out of High School.

Pay attention. Listen. Write. I won’t tell you to enjoy every moment because there will be tough times. Cherish the good moments. Endure the bad. Remember the lessons on both.
